Third Rail is an ensemble-based company. As such, Third Rail chooses scripts with an eye toward casting ensemble members, and ensemble members are given priority when casting decisions are made. Nevertheless, it is frequently the case that roles are cast from outside the ensemble. When this happens auditions are by invitation. At present Third Rail does not hold general auditions.

Third Rail currently produces three-play seasons, and we strive to make our casting decisions well in advance of rehearsals. The 2007-2008 season has been cast. Casting for our 2007-2008 playreading series (three one-night events) has not yet been decided.

Third Rail is a member of the Portland Area Theatre Alliance (PATA). We strive to have auditors in attendance at PATA's twice-yearly general auditions and encourage local actors to attend the PATA generals. Third Rail members also work regularly at other Portland theatres and see lots of local theatre.
