Tommy crashes in a room in his uncle’s house, does odd jobs here and there, tries get-rich-quick schemes with his buddy, Doc, and keeps his ex-wife and kids at arm’s length. Then one night, he defends a young woman from a violent act, a choice which fills both their lives with unexpected consequences. Mystery lies around every corner and they soon find out the past won’t let go so easily. This play is a joyous, frightening, funny, and ultimately gorgeous meditation on the possibility of redemption. An amazing new work by one of the great writers and poets of the theatre.
Reviews
“A sparkling, intensely intimate and satisfying production.” –Oregon ArtsWatch
“Great plays can also suck you in and make you think about life and love and everything else that matters. This production will do that for you, and more.” –Broadway World
“The strength of this production lies in the enchanting characters created by director Scott Yarbrough’s talented cast. It is in the successful creation of these characters that the play’s lyrical whimsicality is best expressed…In a way, The Night Alive is like a contemporary fairy tale: it shows us the underbelly of present life but through a poetic alchemy transfigures it into something beyond the mundane time of our lives.” –The Oregonian
