House Manager

Reports to: Production Manager

Position Status: Part-time temporary, July and August 2017; Approximately 10-15 hours per week, evenings and weekends; Part-time permanent position available in late June 2017.
Pay Rate: $11.25 per hour.

Position Summary: Third Rail Repertory Theatre is hiring a House Manager who reports to the Front of House Coordinator and works closely with all other department leadership for Third Rail’s National Theatre Live and Mainstage programming. The House Manager offers a high level of customer service in all interactions, works closely with the Box Office and stage manager or NT Live projectionist to maintain the programming schedule, and oversees all Front of House operations, including volunteer and concessions management. Together with the Box Office they are an on-site point of contact for patrons, answering any questions both general and in relation to Third Rail’s organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Front of House operations during Third Rail programming on the day-of an assigned shift, including setting up Front of House materials, managing volunteers, monitoring concessions inventory, and working with other staff to ensure productions start on time.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with patrons to improve the theatergoing experience while exceeding their expectations through excellent customer service.
  • Reinforce communication between all working team members of Third Rail’s programming.
  • Attend to the needs of patrons with concerns about program information, seating arrangements, and other special requests.
  • Talk to patrons about Third Rail’s current season, including both NT Live and Mainstage programming, etc.
  • Handle any issues gracefully and compassionately.
  • Must be available on weekends.
  • Must have/obtain a valid OLCC license.
  • Receive and set up Third Rail’s Front of House materials, including concessions and marketing/brand materials the day of each screening.
  • Fill out a House Management report and alerting the Front of House Coordinator of any special needs after each production.
  • Manage strike of the Front of House materials and assist Box Office and production crew with strike as needed.

Box Office Assistant

Position Summary: Third Rail Repertory Theatre is hiring a Box Office Assistant who reports to the Box Office Coordinator and works closely with all other department leadership for Third Rail’s programming. The Box Office Assistant offers a high level of customer service in all interactions, operates the in-house box office, runs will call, and serves as a resource for patrons and their needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that will call is properly set up.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of ticketing software and ticketing policies.
  • Handle and reconcile cash daily
  • Process in-person ticket sales and emails
  • Attend to the needs of patrons, including seat exchanges, grouping, and special needs and requests.
  • Manage all on-site box office equipment needs: Phones, laptop, ticket printer, scanner, and other supplies.
  • Communicate any messages or potential problems (i.e., parking or traffic) to patrons in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Create front of house report with House Manager.

Desired Qualifications

  • Passionate belief in the importance of the performing arts and the mission of Third Rail Repertory Theatre.
  • High level of customer service skill and patron services experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PatronManager or other box office ticketing software.
  • Experience with basic office software, such as the Microsoft office suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Positive, knowledgeable, and professional demeanor.
  • Comfortable in an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.
