Informer Infiltrates Rehearsals for Third Rail's "Aloes"
This past Tuesday marked the beginning of rehearsals for the final show of Third Rail's inaugural season, Athol Fugard's "A Lesson From Aloes." How do we know? Because we've managed to place a "mole" deep inside the rehearsal process. Equipped with a camera disguised as a cup of take-out coffee, our contact will be providing periodic updates on the show's progess.

The first rehearsal began with a reading of the play. The cast includes company member John Steinkamp (last seen in "The Lonesome West") and guest artists Gretchen Corbett and Kevin Jones.

On Stage: A Lesson From Aloes

"Aloes," regarded by many as Fugard's masterpiece, concerns three friends living in South Africa during the apartheid era, at a time of aggressive, even brutal suppression of political activism. As the play unfolds and the atmosphere of suspicion and recrimination intensifies, the price of survival in this political climate is made blisteringly clear. "Aloes" deftly shows that the political is most definitely personal.

Stay tuned for more glimpses of "Aloes" in rehearsal.

Third Rail Repertory Theatre's production of "A Lesson From Aloes" by Athol Fugard runs May 4 through June 2 at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center. Call 503-235-1001 to reserve tickets or purchase them online at www.thirdrailrep.org.
