Everybody Loves Third Rail's "Nobody"
"Nobody Here But Us Chickens," the final show of Third Rail's second season (and our last show at the IFCC) opened April 25th to a packed house and gales of laughter. Now the reviews are in, and it looks like we've got a hit on our hands.
Michael McGregor of The Oregonian called the three short plays that make up "Chickens" "...zany plays, irreverant plays, plays that in the hands of Third Rail Repertory Theatre's dexterous actors yield a hilarious evening of physical comedy." Not only "hilarious" but "slyly thoughtful and moving, too."
Ben Waterhouse of The Willamette Week wrote, "You couldn't ask for a better cast: John Steinkamp, Damon Kupper, Michael O'Connell, Maureen Porter, Valerie Stevens, and Philip Cuomo are a veritable comedy all-star team."
Alison Hallett of the Portland Mercury also complimented the actors, noting that "The cast ... works as hard as any I've seen outside of a circus tent." She discovered that "it's actually physically impossible to watch two men in tighty-whiteys pretending to cockfight without laughing. Try it."
And Eric Bartels of the Portland Tribune just loved it! "You may laugh harder than you ever have in the theater. You may laugh harder than you've ever laughed in your life."
Bartels notes that Third Rail "loves this kind of raucous, highly physical comedy, however shamelessly irreverent. And nobody does it better."
Thanks, all of you! It's great to know that we made the critics laugh -- now we want to make sure you get a good laugh, too! Reserve a ticket now -- with press like this we're sure to sell out the rest of the "Chicken" run in no time.
Third Rail's production of "Nobody Here But Us Chickens" by Peter Barnes runs through May 24 at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, 5340 N. Interstate. Call 503-235-1101 for reservations, or purchase tickets at www.thirdrailrep.org.
