Navigating COVID-19 at Third Rail

“Optimism is what’s dragging me through these pandemic days that have stretched into months. It has given me time to think about how and why I want to return to making theater…No doubt, people will desire robust and healing storytelling, but we have to ensure that we create an environment where theater is accessible to everyone.” -Lynn Nottage, Playwright

Third Rail is a member of the Portland Performing Arts Vaccine Coalition and we are taking the following measures to keep audiences safe and to provide peace of mind to those joining our programming:

  • Requiring proof of vaccination or a current negative test result from every patron entering the theatre
  • Requiring masks that cover nose and mouth be worn at all times when attending any performance or screening
  • Operating under the guidelines of a Vaccinated Theatre Company as required by the Actors’ Equity Association
  • Only allowing concessions to be enjoyed outside the theatre

Everyone who attends a live production, screening, or any other event with Third Rail must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the date of their visit. “Fully vaccinated” means that at least 14 days have passed since receiving the second dose of a two-dose vaccine series or after receiving a single-dose vaccine.

Patrons must be able to show proof at the time of entry that they are fully vaccinated by showing either paper or electronic documentation (including a photo of your vaccination card), along with a photo ID.

Patrons can register their vaccination card and photo ID with the Box Office to expedite the ticketing and check in process. Patrons can send a photocopy of their vaccination card and photo ID to prior to showtime for the Box Office to verify their vaccination status.

Alternatively, visitors may provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before your performance or event. Proof can be a physical test result, a photo of a test result, an email from a test provider showing the result, or an app verifying the test result along with a photo ID.

If you are unable to provide vaccine or negative test proof at the time of the event, we can exchange your tickets to another showtime of the same event, if possible, or exchange your ticket for a future production.

For vaccinations: Go to COVID Vaccine Oregon for all of your vaccine needs! Here is a link to their vaccine locator map. You can type in your address or zip code in the search bar and all local vaccination cites will come up.

Here you can find your eligibility for a third dose/booster shot. Most pharmacies offer the vaccine by walk-in or appointment (Rite-Aid, Walgreens, CVS, Safeway Pharmacy, Fred Meyer Pharmacy, etc).

For COVID testing: You can schedule a COVID test at the Portland Expo Center through OHSU (link to information and scheduling here).

You can also schedule a rapid test through Portland Urgent Care , the Covid Clinic, or call your primary care provider for information on where to get tested near you

Seating capacity is limited for all Third Rail programming to ensure the health and safety of audiences, staff, artists, and crew.

If you’re feeling sick or experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms, please stay home. We will work with you to exchange your tickets for a future performance. Stay home and get well.

In addition to the protocols outlined above, Third Rail will continue to help ensure the health and safety of our community with the following:

  • Third Rail Staff will be implementing additional cleaning procedures at all venues. This will include disinfecting door handles, seat armrests, and other heavily used surfaces before and after performances as well as before and after intermissions where applicable.
  • Hand sanitizer, tissues, and garbage receptacles will be made readily available.
  • We will place signage at our venues reminding people of the best prevention etiquette.
  • We are waiving all exchange fees for the coming months so if you aren’t feeling well, please stay home and take good care. We’ll get you seated at another performance or in later programming.
  • Third Rail Staff and Company will continue to follow all safety protocols recommended by the CDC.
  • We are moving to electronic programs instead of reusing and recycling paper programs that are shared by many people.
  • We will continue to actively monitor and evaluate the situation based on recommendations from the World Health Organization, CDC, Oregon Health Authority, and the Multnomah County Health Department, implementing best-practices accordingly.
