John Patrick Shanley’s Dirty Story is a play about home (Is it a utopia or a prison?), about passion (Is it a positive force or an instrument for destruction?), about story (Is it a useless fiction or a terrifying reality?) and about vision (Is it a path to enlightenment or a journey to disaster?). It’s the perfect play for Third Rail at this time: it’s unnervingly topical, unreasonably challenging, and unbelievably funny.
Reviews
Third Rail’s production of this extended cartoon is, as Recent Tragic Events was, an extremely tight, professional production with impeccable staging from director Scott and some stellar performances, particularly from Michael O’Connell as an overstuffed cowboy named Frank, and Damon Kupper as his foppish British sidekick Watson.
Portland Mercury
A dizzyingly clever thrill ride from brainy and dark to howlingly funny, this play is not to be missed.
Portland Tribune
A deliciously savage comedy… a bristling, fiercely smart production from Third Rail Repertory Theatre.
The Oregonian
Hilariously rendered by Third Rail’s cast of pros.
