With The Pavilion, Third Rail returns to the universe of Craig Wright (Recent Tragic Events), who tackles metaphysical questions with compassionate humor and bold theatricality.
Set in a dance hall in small-town Minnesota, a twenty-year high school reunion provides the backdrop for Wright’s cosmic distillation of time, choice and irrevocability. When the “Cutest Senior Couple” of 1986 meets on the dance floor, will their flame be rekindled or will their history tear them to pieces?
Reviews
The cast and crew make this production look effortless—as though tech, acting, and directing snap together this cleanly all the time. There’s really only one way to put it: Pavilion is a great show. Well written, well conceived, and well executed. You won’t find many nights at the theater more satisfying than this one.
Portland Mercury
Every aspect of this production is excellent, from the acting to the lighting to Jen Raynak’s enveloping sound.
Willamette Week
There is nothing showy here- just a deep immersion in the script and the technical skills to bring out its natural rhythms without forcing anything or letting anything go slack.
