Storytelling asks us to take a risk: to share something of ourselves and invite others in. What happens next is the magic of live storytelling.
Off the Rails: Introduction to Storytelling is a workshop for anyone who loves a great story, is curious about personal storytelling, or wonders what it might feel like to step onstage and share a story of their own.
You don’t need to arrive with a story in mind or even know where to begin. You don’t even need to think of yourself as a performer.
Over the course of a month, local teaching artist Sascha Blocker will guide you through the process of discovering and developing a short personal story. You’ll move step-by-step from shaping your story and receiving feedback to rehearsing and ultimately sharing it with a live audience. Along the way, you’ll learn the fundamentals of personal storytelling and build confidence as you go.
Finding your story is only the beginning. The next step is sharing it.
Registration
Registration for Off the Rails will be open soon!
Registration includes:
- Three group workshop sessions
- One individual coaching session with Sascha
- A dress rehearsal
- A final live performance at CoHo Theatre
Each workshop is limited to six storytellers, allowing for individualized feedback and support. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
Because each session builds toward the final performance, registration is a commitment to attend all three workshops, a one-on-one coaching session, the dress rehearsal, and the final performance. Participants should also plan to spend 1–2 hours each week outside of scheduled sessions developing and rehearsing their stories. Final stories will be approximately 8 minutes in length.
Workshop Location: Third Rail Rehearsal Studio
2259 NW Raleigh St.
Performance Location: CoHo Theatre
